My Mental Age...
You Are 22 Years Old |
22
Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.
13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.
20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.
30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!
40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

Weekend again!
I can't wait for 23rd of Feb cause I'm going to receive my extra belated Ang Pow from the MOE. The school had some trouble with my application to MOE h/q hence my delayed pay. Revival to my bank account man. The last time I drew out cash, I only had a meagre 2 bucks left in my account. Haha. First thing I'm going to do with my salary is to donate part of it to the poor and the disadvantaged. Then, take my family and bf out for a neat meal at Ritz Carlton or the newly launched Straits Kitchen at the Grand Hyatt with its stylo mylo buffet serving hawker food.
Read about it in an 8-Days mag. Then again, maybe we should go for some simple, good food because CNY has just passed. We probably need a Detox. Maybe Japanese sashimi could do some good.
Life at work this week:
-punished my English class in the sun until they learnt to be quiet. Principal saw and encouraged me to do that to my other classes if they were not interested to learn. Those who were silent could stand in the shade but some idiots could not stop talking and figeting they remain in the sun. Some who thought they were smart remained silent out in the sun but once I took them into the shade, they started their nonsense so I brought them out again. After one period, the principal told me to leave those who are still standing in the sun with the DM and he will get them to clean the boys' toilets and if they weren't cleaned properly, they would have to clean the girls' toilets too.
- Literature class with the tail end normal acad class: I taught them what Alliteration means and told them to come up with a poem using the device. As I walked around, one boy was playing with him friend's wallet so I went up to him and asked "What are you doing?" and he replied with a rude "WHAT?" So I told him calmly that I should be the one asking him what he is doing not the other way round. Then, I told him that he wouldn't want me to confiscate that wallet and he said he wouldn't mind because it's not his. So I tried to out-do him and said I wouldn't confiscate his friend's wallet but his wallet and he dared me to because there wasn't any money inside anyway. So I told the Vice Chairman to bring him down to the office and tell the DM about his open-defiance but there was no one at the office at that time so he was brought up again. Then, something else happened. There was this boy who I have been eyeing since the start of my period and he has been talking non-stop to his neighbours. The first time I saw it, I told him to read the poems. That didn't thwart him from chatting. When he was set work to do, he refused and continued talking. When I couldn't tolerate his nonsense anymore, I told him to stand up. He decided to make up an over-used excuse which is that his neighbour was asking him a question and was so rude he raised his voice at me. I told him that I have been observing him and I saw him talking with my own eyes ever since I stepped into the class and he started to hurl verbal assaults in Hokkien. So I told the class that I'd bring the two rude students down to the DM myself later during their recess time and some of their kind friends started to beg me to give them another chance. I told them to stay out of it and that they have to face the music and be responsible for their actions. Anyway, a male teacher came along and I told him about the drama and he immediately took them down to the DM who was apparently there already. I went down when the bell rang and wrote a report on both matters and they were both given caning. The ruder one was suspended from class for 3 weeks.
Teaching is a marinate of social-working, part-time parenting, baby-siting and acting. I hate my role as a disciplinarian but these kids know no kindness.

Bystanders of commercialism
<3 Bystanders of Commercialism <3
A Tribute to LOVE.
before you get confused, I shall update you on what the title means.Bystanders of Valentine's Day commercialism. Not that I did not celebrate it entirely...Summary of events on 14 feb 2005
Returned home at 2pm with bags of NTUC groceries consisting of maggie noddles, strawberries, Japanese chicken and cherry tomatoesThe Cook - Wenhui, was in charge of dessert as well. He bought Ben ANd Jerry's Ice Cream - Cherry Garcia...HEAVEn.Started cooking up a storm... in the kitchen.Candle light lunch assisted by 4 pathetic tea-lights with some help of the home chandelier----------------------------------------------------------------
Dinner... for family plus both of us- Chicken stew which didn't come out nice...Went out to look see and soak in the atmosphere.Took the MRT to City Hall. Walked through City Link and visited some shops before making our way to the Esplanade where we found a unique teddy bear shop.Planned to go to Suntec's Secret Recipe for Dinner Part 2 but chanced upon a massive fun fair.Watched people take heart-stopping rides and try their luck and skills at the game booths.Spent some loose change at food stalls - ate the "nostalgic" tutu kueh and chicken. Found a lost-and-found heart-shaped balloon.Took the mrt back home.No frills but perfect. Can't get any more budget than this but we have already decided not to be suckers for commercialism. Trying not to be a V day cynic... in fact, I even encouraged my students to send their love out to their classmates by giving each of them a piece of heart-shaped construction paper for them to write their friends a note celebrating platonic love and friendship and got them 2 stick their love notes on the notice board. Hah.Adding as an aside, I even told Wenhui not to send me any flowers and if he wanted to he could send it any day except Valentine's day. Find it really silly and unromantic. Actually im just consoling myself cuz wenhui will never buy me flowers that idiot (<--- wh wrote that himself. Yup that's me =>)BACK TO ME:
every guy in the world will be thinking of the same thing - buying flowers so what so special about it then? Loses its meaning. So Wenhui... you should grow some flowers at your backyard next V day okay!? (wh: yes using my special fertilizer) hah. Just don't let the flowers smell like you.The End. To be continued....(coz American Idol is starting soon.)

Words Wearing Red
I'm spending my Chinese New Year with phlegm inhabiting my lungs. They will stay to enjoy the goodies so being a sadist, I shall stay away from the CNY goodies so that they can't enjoy it!
Haha! Mm. . . So let me update you on the case. Let's see... one Chinese girl and one Malay girl were asked to write a report on what had happened, as well as the thief suspect and myself.
Anyway, which baddie in the channel 8 drama serials will actually admit that he is a thief?Well, he denied any allegations of him being a thief. But what are the chances of him being one? He just got out from the boys' home and well if he still denies it, the discipline master is going to hand this case to the police to do an investigation.
That aside, just a summary on the investigations. Won't let that ruin my CNY, will I? (Despite having a take-home report to hand up to the principal first thing on friday.)
CNY... all the same.
It's a date- guage to see how one year passes so quickly. I can still vividly remember what I did last CNY. I was invited to "meet the folks" for the very first time and not a comfortable time indeed as I was embarassed to take their ang pows. Anyway, I went there in high-heels and a floral dress to make the first impression of myself. Like an interview. I can only see how apt Slyvia Plath's poem "The Applicant" is right now...
Ok, shall not let myself slip into cynicism! It's CNY for Pete's sake!

hm.
I don't know where to start.
This whole week can be rated the worse of all in my entire life.
Perks? well yeah maybe today. A party going on at the pool side later coz my xcountry family is coming down to draw a smile on my face.
Have been feeling under the weather these days. There has been the invisible flu bug flying around in the staff room and nobody knows how long the staff room hasnt been aired.
Ok, let me begin to write like an optimist... don't want to linger in self - pity anymore.
The week has been eventful! (Crap.)
First came my first visitor - the sore throat on tuesday.
Then came the mysterious flu and the sunny phlegm.
To top it off, something really interesting and enigmatic happened to me at the beginning of friday which shouldn't be ruining my weekend but I can't help it coz I keep thinking to myself where I went wrong.
I had CME with a Sec 3 Normal Acad class first thing that morning. Since my Dad is in charge of the TAF club, he has to be in school by 6.50am and being the "backseat hanger-on", I have to wake up extra early and skip breakfast which we normally had previously b4 setting off for work. I decided to grab a bite after the first period since I was pretty convenient for me to walk directly to the canteen from that classroom hence I brought my purse into the classroom as well as my handphone and put it in my work bag. (I always carry my hp with my purse.Comes naturally.) Little did it strike me that it was going to unveil "some truths of the world." (I'll get to that later on...)
As I was writing the answers down on the board, some of the malay boys decided to pilfer into my bag. So much for being inquisitive students. hah. They wanted to steal my hp initially but decided to take the meagre 10 bucks that was sitting so comfortably in my purse because it was a better and a smarter option of course. ( I can only narrate the sequence of events only because on the third period, the history teacher of that class was absent and I was sent to sit-in.) One malay girl witnessed the whole "mission-made- possible" and felt bad for me and told another group of chinese girls and then the girls told me. Without them, I would have been kept in the dark and probably thought my 10 bucks was still in my purse coz I only spent my coins on my way to the canteen on the second period.
Well, I was kind enough to give the culprits the ultimatum of owning up and returning the stolen item to me by the end of the day or else....
It didn't work. I didn't receive any news from the culprits. By the end of the day, my dad had already known about it coz I told him about this incident immediately after that.
(So your still reading huh... ain't that an interesting event!)
Where was God when that happened?
I can only say that He was where He was. Watching and teaching me that the world can't be trusted. I won't be paranoid to the extent of guarding my belongings with a lock but it will sure keep me alert when I go into class. I've learnt that kindness doesn't pay off and that I can't be myself in school. I've got to be a true tyrrant... a power- lusting dictator. A meannie! I got to make them sit like dogs at their seats, punish them even if their CME books have suddenly disappeared. I thought I didn't have to be fierce because that class was
just my CME class.
I thought wrong. They sure taught me that I've got to make a big deal out of what I'm teaching them and exercise my authority as their CME teacher. Sad to say that I think I'm turning prejudice against a certain gender and race. So much for being a CME teacher; preaching religious and racial harmony... (ironically, thats the topic I'm at now...)
Ill tell you what the school has decided to do to them or do to me next entry. Similarly, a suspenseful and enigmatic end to this entry.
